Now that AI is in, would you still outsource content writers? Do you still need them or would you rather write the articles yourself using AI?

I am asking because a lot of writers got laid off since the boom of ChatGPT and would like to know if content writing is still a job/freelance job one should pursue.

You are right. Many writers were laid off after the launch of ChatGPT. But I have seen many people still outsource their content projects. It’s true, the Ai tool can write the same as human writing, but still it needs some proofreading,g and if you are writing for SEO, then absolutely needed the OnPage for better keyword integration. I have many clients who outsource their Writing projects to me. Not everyone can write quality articles with AI tools, the only difference is that now clients have to spend less to get more.

I feel sorry for any blogger or website woner who is relying totally on AI for content. Though the invention of AI inform of chatGPT is good, it cannot be compared to when you write an a well-researched, outstanding article all written by yourself and not with help of any AI.

What you can do with AI ChatGPT is use any content or article it generates as “*a template*” to build up an amazing content for publishing blogposts. I repeat, as a template to guide you in creating a unique content.

Outsourcing is really fading into the background, but AI may not hit the nail on the head, checks are really needed here. And in this it is wiser to hire a Reviewer with knowledge of a copywriter for the position. So that he would select the correct requests from the GPT chat, as well as make amendments. Since a lot depends on the GPT chat request, even if you simplify one keyword. For example, the result of the written article may be better than giving a task that is more difficult to query. For the time being, current technology needs to be monitored. At present, it is necessary to monitor the work of AI

I’d always prefer content writers over AI as I personally want my content to be written manually. I only use AI to generate topic ideas.

Even though if the content is written using AI, It needs human touch!

One of my old content writers wrote out to me pleading for work so I sent 6 pages to him and 6 pages to ChatGPT, and my God I preferred editing the ChatGPT stuff.

I guess it depends what you’re writing and who your content writers are, but I always thought this guy was pretty good. Can’t justify taking £x out of my client’s budget to get someone to do the content when I can do it myself for half the price and without hating every second of it.

I’m currently writing content for someone and using ChatGPT and subediting it, and I would assume I’m relatively good at it cos I’ve been doing it for years, but damn I can’t believe how much dull tedium it used to be to have to write 300 words about a brown coat and then another 300 words about the same coat but green and then another 300 about the same coat but small. It was like doing a constipated shit but with my brain. It’s bad enough subediting it. I don’t think my content about a small brown coat was significantly better than what ChatGPT does

I believe that nowadays, writers should consider taking an “AI writer’s certification” or something like that. AI is a growing trend, and it’s essential for us to stay ahead as leaders in the field. Additionally, it’s worth noting that AI doesn’t completely replace all the tasks of a writer, so I believe there is still a significant demand for content SEO professionals. They have a crucial role to play and plenty of job opportunities available.

I manage a digital marketing agency and we’ve not laid anyone off. In fact we’ve put in place things to stop people using AI to essentially prioritise and protect their jobs. We still do experiments with AI but I’m yet to see any major results minus saving 30 mins here and there. I have noticed freelance writing work drying up on sites like fiverr and upwork though so not everyone is taking the same approach

Depends on the type of content. But AI can never replace writers if they are qualified enough. AI probably does well when it comes to informational or factual topics, something as “how to clean a floor”. But when it comes to reviews or topics that require extensive research (every niche will definitely have keywords that need extensive research, review posts, and as such) AI can never tell no matter how advanced it gets. And adapting to new things about a topic is something to consider as well. Let’s take chatgpt , the current free version is trained on the datasets that happened before sep 2021 I guess, so it is not going to be up to date. and most of the time I have seen redundant information being provided by it. For eg: for a keyword like “how to take care of a certain plant X” the answer generated is almost the same for the keyword targeting “plant Y”. When a human writes such content, you can very well see a lot of experiences, facts, and advice. If writers are getting laid it is either: they still need to upskill themselves and be a master at a specific niche and establish their expertise in the area or the person who hired them doesn’t really understand the value of writers, content, and SEO in general.

The question is not really if a human writer is good, they are!

The issue is a simple function of time and cost. With basic knowledge of a business/product or service just about anyone can generate well written and yes with simple prompting, unique content at scale for a fraction of the cost.

The following certainly varies with the field we’re discussing, but I believe the trend will be that companies will opt for the 20x increase in productivity, significant decrease in cost and time to completion for articles that are about 90% as good as a dedicated content writer can produce. Add into that Ai generated images, audio and graphics and you have a workflow that will be very tough to beat.

Content writers are and should be leveraging these tools to create scale for the businesses they serve.

AI is a pretty neat tool when it comes to saving time, especially with the more monotonous tasks. But when it comes to creativity, originality, and that ‘je ne sais quoi’ that makes writing truly engaging, it’s still a human game my friend and always will be.
