Agency burnout, unsure of what to do next

Posted by Ales1390 on May 8, 2024 at 9:01 am

I've been working in agency for nearly 8 years and I've hit the wall. I'm currently working as an Account Manager within biddable media, and I've started to see a career in agency as a dead end.

I've been contemplating moving into Ad Tech or working for a platform as a rep. I enjoy pitching new products, and I've proven myself at helping clients see the value in these products. I feel like this could be a good move for me.

Curious to know if anyone has made a similar move and/ or what they did when they eventually started to loathe agency life.

Im in a somewhat similar situation. I think I want to go in-house and do something more in the realm of marketing strategy/business strategy. Not exactly sure how to go about this though. Im not willing to get an MBA and I also make pretty good money with all my agency experience. Since this would be. a major shift in my role, I imagine I would likely have to take a paycut with whatever I decide to do next, especially in this economy, so im just staying put for now. When the time comes, I think Ill be able to find something, even if its marketing adjacent. Im confident I bring a lot of great skills to the table including storytelling with data, communication/presentation, understanding performance marketing, tying marketing metrics to business objectives. It’s just a matter of convincing the hiring manager in an unrelated role that I can provide a lot of value to their team. My recommendation would be to focus on the value you can provide based on everything you’ve learned from working at an agency. You have a lot of valuable skills that could translate to a variety of positions.
