$10,000 Hold On My Account, Never Use Paypal For SEO
I saw a post today referring to the usage of the payment software Stripe and all the negatives that come along with it, but there is a much bigger and badder monster under the bed and that is Paypal. Paypal is essentially a tyranny where anything they want goes and that’s the final word of the land.
When I first started my business I used Paypal as that was the only platform I really knew about I would say it’s the face of the payment software industry despite slowly losing ground these past few years. Nonetheless, things went pretty smooth at first as I was able to buy and sell with no problems, but then I was asked to switch to a business account so they could tax my transactions which to me still didn’t raise any flags and I thought was fair since I’m a legitimate business.
I continued using their platform until one day I got my largest payment ever which was $10,000 for a year of SEO services. Now I had been paid more for a year of SEO but never all at once and Paypal put a hold on my account saying it was too large a sum of money and they would release it to me in the next 2 months. Well, I had already started working and I needed this money for any tools I would need so I contacted them to have them look into it and see if my funds could be released early. The rep on the phone told me that would be fine I just need to fill out a review form with all my business information and I should be good to go since I’ve never had a dispute on my account before… BOY WAS THAT WRONG.
Paypal slapped me with a ban on their platform deeming my business model risky and now making me wait 180 days to release my payment despite being encouraged by the rep to make this appeal and not having a single refund on my account. I called in and each rep just told me there was nothing to do about it despite Paypal having its own SEO articles and the benefits of SEO.
It seems as though Paypal wanted to create a space in which only they can sell their own SEO services, and more so to make matters worse I received a recommendation from both indeed and LinkedIn to apply for their SEO manager spot no more than a week later. For anyone wondering I did receive my funds eventually but I had to have my client request a refund for the amount and mail me a check I never used Paypal again after that experience so be very careful because whatever PayPal says goes.
