Personally, I would stay away from LinkedIn ads and (even if you don’t want to deal with Facebook Ads), use Facebook Ads. The reason is LinkedIn is super expensive, and it usually doesn’t work great for conversions.
What I’d do, if I were you, is the following:
1) Create a small Google Ads campaign targeting very relevant keywords like:
* +resume +template +engineer
* +resume +sample +engineer
* +resume +template +engineering
* +engineering +resume +examples
* +engineering +resume +templates
I recommend using BMM because this way you can learn a bit about the keywords being used by your audience, although – given that these keywords have about 1,900 + monthly searches in the US – you can use them in exact match and see what happens.
In any case, with those keywords, and a few more, you can target highly engaged users. CPC for those keywords is at about $4, so at $27 a sale, you have to be careful to make a very relevant landing page and to optimize it, so that a big chunk of your users convert. Otherwise you might lose money. It will probably take some optimizations before you can reach a good cost of acquisition.
Now, you can also do some Facebook Ads.
I’d personally create an audience that targets interests engineers usually have (things like github, and other SaaS platforms they use – and you can also add something like codeacademy, udacity, etc), and create some very very well worded ad. If you are after people looking for internships and entry level positions you can narrow down your audience by targeting people below 25 or 26 years old, who are in college, or who just finished their undergrad studies (you can target people who attended college between 2014 and 2020, for example).
With Facebook you should add the pixel to your page and create a conversion event you can optimize for (ideally when they buy your template, or when they add it to your cart).
Make sure your ads are actionable, descriptive, and good looking.
You will also need some optimizations before you get results. But I trust this can be a good platform for it.
