    When do you give up on a client?

    Posted by pinkelephantO on May 9, 2023 at 8:27 am

    A wise man said that when you signup a client,then is the moment the clocks starts ticking counting the time until you loose it. Or give up.

    I’m curious,besides the fairy tales of 20x roas : what/when is the moment you decide you let go a client.

    There can be many reasons for terminating your services, for example:

    * general unprofessionalism
    * they don’t pay on time, or at all
    * they ask you to do something unethical or illegal
    * you know they are doing something unethical or illegal
    * they ask you to achieve unrealistic goals
    * they make changes in the account that are detrimental to the work you’re doing
    * they ask for unreasonable deliverables, e.g. a 1-hour check-in call every day
    * the client is unprofitable for you
    * you don’t feel like you’re delivering a good service for them, i.e. not achieving good performance
    * so much more

    This article might help.

    There could be tons of reasons but the big three for our agency are:

    1. They don’t pay invoices
    2. They don’t respect us and our work
    3. We can not crack the code to scale the ad account or make it profitable. Time is money and time might be better spent on another brand

    Most of things can be managed via setting expectations when we start working together. We let a client go a few years ago for number two and one together.

    More brands need to realize there are more brands needing help then amazing agencies out there. When you find a great agency, treat them how you want to be treated.

    Outside of what others have already said, I definitely believe in the 80/20 rule in business. 20% of your clients will cause 80% of your headaches.

    I actually try to churn that 20% because the time investment could be better spent on another client. Plus it’s not fair to my other clients if a handful are totally monopolizing my time.
