Visualising increased competition in Google Ads using Action Insights

Posted by seohelper on February 15, 2021 at 3:45 pm

    Hey guys,

I’m trying to find a way to visualise an increase in overall competition year on year for my brand using auction insights. Difficulty is that among the 7 or so regular competitors, impr share has gone up for some and decreased for others.

My thinking is that I can convert overlap rate into an average number of competitors in the same auction as me. For example if overlap rates are as follows:

    Competitor A: 20%

    Competitor B: 40%

    Competitor C: 10%

    … then the average number of users in my auctions are 1 (me) + 0.2 + 0.4 + 0.1 = 1.7

Does this make sense or am I missing something?

    Thanks

Go into auction insights for your term and click download. But then segment it by day week monty etc. Then build a graph with the data that shows the change for you and other competitors over time: date along the bottom, % imp share up the side, and lines for yourself and each competitor.

It should easily visualise when there are spikes and drops. If you can, get your Avg cpc mapped to it at the same time so you can correlate any imp share changes against your cost.

This tool builds charts based on your auction insights reports. It’s a little quicker than building it out yourself in Excel.
