    Hi folks,

I own a website with about 2000 pages. It is ranked #1 on a dozen of high volume keywords and about 100 medium to low volume KW, and all of my traffic is organic. I have about 1M unique visitors /month, 2M in December.

It is currently in French only and I’d like to translate it in english, but I wonder what the best SEO strategy would be.

Should I create a subdomain or a whole new website? Are there any best practices ?

    Cheers !

I’ve worked on sites that have translated content and typically find that they don’t do as well as the original. Looking at the data, I find that these people tend to view the primary content and let their browser translate the content for them, either Google or a plugin. Have you looked at the traffic you are receiving and where it is coming from? What are their engagement metrics? Are they similar to the primary?

You can use your existing domain and url subfolders like /en/, and set up hreflang tags. Look for example how versus.com does it.
