That subtle jerk when accelerating – should I be worried?
Posted by on August 31, 2026 at 12:37 pmSo I’ve had my 2017 Audi Q5 for about three years now and honestly it’s been rock solid until recently, but I’ve started noticing this weird thing where sometimes when I’m pulling away from a roundabout or gently accelerating from a rolling stop, there’s this almost imperceptible hesitation or little clunk that wasn’t there before. It doesn’t happen every time, maybe once or twice during my daily commute from Abu Dhabi to Al Ain, and my husband keeps telling me I’m being paranoid because the car drives fine otherwise and there are no warning lights on the dash. But something just feels off to me, you know? I’ve been doing some reading and I came across a list of common Audi transmission warning signs every driver should know, and honestly it kind of freaked me out because a few of them match what I’ve been experiencing – the delayed engagement, the rough downshifts when decelerating, and even a slight whining noise that I thought was just tire roar from the highway. The thing is, I don’t want to take it to the dealership and have them tell me it’s nothing while charging me a fortune for a diagnostic, but I also don’t want to ignore it and end up with a much bigger bill down the road. Has anyone else had this kind of intermittent hesitation and it turned out to be something minor like a fluid level issue, or am I just in denial about the early stages of a mechatronic problem? Would really appreciate hearing from other Q5 owners around here, especially if you’ve been through something similar.
