  • Subdomain vs separate domain

I’m currently working for a software company. They have a main website which has some content on it in Dutch, the target audience is limited to Belgium and the Netherlands, mainly potential clients.

Now we want to create another website that focuses on some technical content, this would be in English and have an international target audience.

The main question, would it be preferred to have this English site as a subdomain, or should we go with a completely new domain (a bit like a sub-brand).

Anybody that has experience and/or recommendations on this matter?

Neither. Same domain with language options. Is your site built on a CMS?

Technical SEO pov, a new domain is similar to a sub-domain in the sense that they are all unique domains. Hence, things like domain strengths from your main domain do not really carry over.

Your consideration is with the branding and product positioning.

If an association with the current brand gives you better leverage, subdomain.
If a fresh start is better, start with a new domain.
