  • Separating Blog from Main page – harmful or not?

So we have this website, that started out as a blog and podcast. So far so good.

Then opened a café with the same name of the content brand. We thought it makes sense, the café is for coworking and digital nomads and the content is about being productive in a digital world.

But now we have this kind of weird mix of showing content on the start page, as well as location-related things. Also, the domain ends with .cafe, so it doesn’t make sense to share this coffee brand with the content brand. I am the content writer, but I know little about the technical realm. That’s why I am coming here for some advice.

***Long story short, we want to separate the websites for a clean look and feel.***

    My questions would be:

    * Could this do any harm for the content? How could we avoid this? It just starts getting traction on its own.

What would be the best solution here? I am grateful for any help. Thanks!

Is this only about order or do you have marketing goals?

What do you want to promote?

Unless there is a massive business reason, I would advise against breaking apart the two. All of the backlinks, age of domain, value, trust, etc. that has been built up over time will not transfer to the site that you break off.

It does not matter if you put it on a sub-domain – I know some people will say it doesn’t matter, but I have seen this approach and it tanks a site – then when you move it back to be part of the original site, the site gains back what is lost.

The best analogy that I can give on this. Let’s say you want to remodel your house, and you’re tired of the bathroom being inside the house, so you build an outhouse on the corner of your property and put the bathroom out there. Your house will lose a lot of value now because people would have to go out to that separate building to go to the bathroom. That’s essentially what you are doing with your site.
