  • SEO Hiring- Small Business Question

Posted by Kacj820 on June 17, 2024 at 11:51 am

We are a small local business. We worked with an SEO person in our area for a couple of months with the purpose to give a boost in SEO before our busy season in October.

We are now looking to do the same but don’t want to use the same person. I felt like he didn’t do much and couldn’t say what he was actually doing other than creating location pages and renaming the website name headers. I am pretty savvy myself—I felt like I could do what he did (copy and paste location pages). I do blog posts and Google updates every week. I’ve made sure our blog posts have been indexed. I’ve done some internal linking. We have no back links. But beyond that I don’t have any other skill/knowledge.

If our budget is 500/per month (give or take)….

What is realistic of what to expect to be done?

What things should we ask them to focus on if it’s only for a few months?

Also I know SEO should be year long etc etc and $500/ month isn’t enough …but it’s all we can afford.

If you know $500 isn’t enough, and you know you need a year, but you can’t do it…. You are wasting your money.

I would invest in an article in the most relevant local newspaper, try to get a link out of this and keep doing your own SEO efforts. Doing “SEO” for 1-2 mths before busy season for $500 won’t do anything (as you rightfully pointed out yourself).

Btw, “no” backlinks is not enough – at least make sure your local business is present in all relevant directories (most of which will give you a link).

You would probably be better off just putting that $500 into paid ads instead. It’s not going to get you anything more than what your last guy did for SEO.

500 is not enough budget. You are better off hiring someone to do on page and do off page your self.
If you want visit this website. https://novaandmore.com may be they would help you. But they offer their serivces to agencies only. But I think you can talk to them

It depends on your business too. 500 may not be enough but what’s your business? If you’re an attorney then definitely not. I’ve ranked smaller local business for an affordable budget. I can dm you

It sounds like you’re already doing a lot of great things for your local SEO. With a budget of $500/month, focusing on getting quality backlinks, optimizing your Google My Business profile, and encouraging customer reviews can be very effective.

I have a lot of experience in this area and can also take a look at your Google Business Profile to make sure it’s in good shape.

Feel free to reach out and we can discuss it, not a big budget but definitely doable.

Honestly this is so old school but use Every Door by the USPS with that budget you can make a flyer and hit hundreds of doors or business based on zip code. For your $500 it will get you more leads depending on your business…. Trust me I have thrown money away on internet marketing and ads, literally should have just burned the money for fun… 🙁

500$ is not much and you wouldnt get much result, good or bad seo worker. It’s still something, but you cant drive trafic on short term. If your guy cant tell what he did, well yes, he is probably not great. But header/metadata is the first thing to optimize so he might not have been wrong here.

If you hire a good seo guy, he will analyze your website, pinpoint the weak points and what needs to be done to get trafic. When I take a new account, my first action is always an audit and building a strategy.

It’s great you’re writing regular blog posts. It’s also good that you are forward thinking enough to be considering October in June. Plenty of businesses fail to think this far ahead.

    Here’s some things to consider,

Do you have a strategy for your blog content? What do they answer? What customers do they help? What are they linked to and why? Do they have a call to action?

Are you writing too much similar content? This will cannibalise your search results.

Your Google Business Profile is a big part of your presence so make sure to keep this accurate. Do you have a review strategy? Do you have products or services listed there? Do they link back to your website?

What are you competitors doing? What can you copy? What gaps can you exploit?

Do you have a keyword universe with search terms, search volumes, and seasonal trends? This will help you plan what to write and when. You can also look for what keywords your competitors are ranking for and look for opportunities or gaps there.

The cost trade off is money and time. You could buy access to some of this information for a month with your budget, get the research, then stop using them.

A really great tool for small business I always recommend is Hike SEO. You will get a lot of bang for your buck there. They do plenty of demos or I’m happy to show you around it to see if is something you could use. (Not an affiliate or anything, it’s just something I use myself for clients and believe in the product.)

Depending on your niche, $500 can provide some good results if it’s all used on off-page SEO and your on-page is already solid.

Feel free to send me your website and ideal keywords and I’ll research and let you know if it’s something we’d be able to achieve some solid results for you

$500 is nothing in SEO. You most likely got what you paid for.

$500 is enough for a handful of nice blog posts per month – link building is a different story.

For an SEO agency or even a freelancer, that kind of budget won’t stretch too far for other stuff.

Really just depends on the state of your website, you might want to share it here so people can help you better.
