Same niche site in another language

I have a one sport niche website in English language and I’ve acquired a domain for it in my native language. There’s some juice in search for my language, so I would like to copy and paste translated by me articles from my mother site. Images in articles are going to look the same, maybe I’ll change their names and alt tags (I hope I won’t have to, I have over 500 of them) there will be the same content (although translated) and formatting. Site is going to look identically as it’s mother.
1. Will it impact SEO for both sites? (Duplicate content thing etc.)
2. Can I place a link in the footer on both sites (from eng to native and from native to eng)?

You can’t used same content in 2 website. If you do it then you will take penalty from Google.
