Our competitor is using a page counter to misrepresent products sold.
Hey guys,
So I’ve been digging into a competitor ranking above us on a few keywords. I want to see what they’re doing differently and how we can improve.
I noticed that they had a counter just above their ‘add to cart’ button, which says: “?341 SOLD IN THE LAST 7 DAYS” — I thought this was impressive for just one of their products, so I had a look around and they have some impressive sales numbers on all their products. I decided to check their code. It turns out that this is a page visits counter, not a sales counter. I verified this by reloading a private browser several times and watched the counter go up. It’s a page visits counter by Effective Apps.
This seems sketchy as fuck to me. Is this legal?
