Opinions on seperate landing pages?
Junior SEO here!
My senior colleague tends to advice me to make seperate landing pages to not mess with the current rankings of pages.
Isn’t it bad practice to make a seperate landing page for the same subject because of keyword canibalization? Or will there never be keyword canibalization for pages that have the same subject but don’t use the same keyword?
I’m not sure what the best practice is for a page that is ranking fairly well (page 1 or top 5 on page 1).
Example situation that actually happened before my colleague gave me advice about this:
I recently drastically optimized a page that was ranking in top 3 for a random keyword that was VERY brand specific and wanted them to rank for search queries from people who didn’t know them yet. As a result this page has dropped down to position 30 the last month. Which isn’t a good look in the overall report for my client. I’m hoping it’ll go up so I can explain it’s only a temporary drop.
Did I do a stupid thing and should I tackle this differently in the future? Would love to get some opinions!
