Just had a meeting with a SEO company about my website and I’m a little devastated. I’m tech impaired but have worked very hard on my website in Webflow w the help of ChatGPT. They showed me how poorly my site is doing… and it’s very very poor. And then told me I can get my foundation together for $900/month which is much more than I can afford. Does anyone have recommendations or a company or service that I can contact to help?

    Run.

You definitely don’t need a $900/mo package to improve webflow metrics… It’s a CMS, and it works fine, until & unless you are running a site with tens of thousands of users and pages.

Don’t be too hard on yourself.

Take what the SEO company told you with a grain of salt. It’s pretty standard practice for agencies to run a scary audit, show you all the red flags, and then pitch you their monthly retainer.

Before spending any money, it would help to know a bit more. What kind of website is it (business, portfolio, blog)? And what are you actually trying to achieve with it… more traffic, more enquiries, local visibility? That makes a huge difference in terms of what you actually need.

Run your site through Google Search Console if you haven’t already. It’ll show you what Google actually sees and flag real issues vs the stuff agencies like to dramatise. From there you can figure out what direction to take.

$900/mo for Webflow SEO? They saw a sucker coming. Just install SEMflow. It works great with Webflow and will help your SEO while you sleep.

The question is: Did they mean technical SEO or actual content? Depending on what you are trying to fix, it CAN cost that amount of money. Technical you can do yourself, there isn’t that much to interpret or understand there, do the basics and you’re fine.

If it comes to Content; This is another big topic. What are your problems? Do you try to convert but attract the wrong audiences? Do they bounce? Do you even get organic traffic that’s relevant?

But from the post it looks like it’s technical – don’t get ripped of – take care!

Agencies do this. They run their x-point audit and give you all the bad news. It’s just a sales tactic that may or may not have validity. I once got a cold call from an agency. They had no idea I was in marketing and had several targeted keywords in the first few Google results. He told me the site didn’t have any SEO, so people couldn’t find us. From there, he offered his services to get us showing on Google, so we could get customers.

While he was talking, I looked up his agency in San Antonio, which had a nice website and reviews, so it shows that even a reputable-looking company will pull this move.

Is it for a local business? Do you have a GMB profile?

$900/mo seems pretty steep either way.
