Ok, we have a client trying to rank in Vancouver. They are being outranked by competitors with DA scores of 13 with 100 backlinks. The company we are working with has a DA of 38. Over 9000 backlinks with a good majority being high DA dofollow backlinks with optimized anchor text. They have all the right keywords on-site and regularly update their content. All Meta info is properly optimized. Despite all this they are still being outranked by competitors with weaker SEO and less user-friendly sites. Our client is on 3rd page while their competition is on 1st. Any reason why they might be outranking our client?

I’d look at the intent. It’s not just that website outranking you, it’s 20 more if you’re on page three.

What does their Google my business page look like. Have you put any effort in to getting reviews?

Look at changing up the meta title, meta description and enriching the page content.

Links will determine your movement from low page 2 to page 1, but if you’re sitting on 3, there’s a chance your copy isn’t as relevant to the search term as it could be.

    1. May be the competitors have better content (EAT).

    2. May be the competitors have better UX and UI.

    3. Your statement : “The site we are working on is 2 years old while others are much older”. The site’s age does not matter as much as quality of the page. So, compare those specific pages.

Are the back links from relevant websites?
    What’s the niche?

Outranked for the head terms, right? Or for some fringe keywords that are not relevant to your business?

It could be those 9,000 links holding you back. What is the quality of those links? You say High “high DA do follow” but how relevant is the domain to your client’s website? Those links could be contributing very little if the relevance is low or non-existant. A backlink profile is only as good as the links in it. On its own, totals and scores matter very little if done incorrectly.

“still being outranked by competitors with weaker SEO and less user-friendly sites”

If you’re on page three, then all signs point to your website having the weaker SEO. In your eyes, it might be better, but you may be over optimising the website and Google sees this.

Without a domain name, it’s a guessing game as to the root of the problem.
