Instagram seemingly stopped pushing my reels to non-followers, did something happen?
Posted by on May 1, 2026 at 1:09 amI've been posting reels twice a week on Instagram for about 5 months and they've been steadily growing in views but this month has just been brutal for some reason and I'm trying to figure out why.
I currently have ~900 followers and my reels were avering 1k~4k views with a couple outliers surpassing 20k. Most of these views came from non-followers who watch the videos on the Reels Tab. After posting a reel that hit 10k views with a really great retention rate and non-follower view %, my next reels simply… flopped, over and over. I've posted 4 reels since that outlier and they all are stuck at 200 views with ZERO non-follower engagement. I saw the Insights tab and Instagram was straight up not pushing them to the Reels Tab at all. What happened here? Does anyone have an explanation?
And before anyone says my latest reels have bad hooks or retention: I post the exact same content as shorts on youtube and those same videos have been performing decently over there. So it's definitely on the algorithm side.
I also don't use AI or repost content, it's all original material
