Everywhere I look, the posts blowing up seem to be rage bait. Controversial takes, outrage farming, dunks. It works, clearly. But is that the ONLY reliable way to grow?

    I genuinely enjoy : Humor-driven posts/Twisted/dark storytelling/Parody and satire

Does that kind of content have real traction on X, or does the algorithm just bury it unless you're already big? Would love to hear from people who've grown without going the rage bait route, or honest takes from those who tried and switched.

What actually worked for you at the 500 to 5k stage?

I was around that range not too long ago and had the same doubt. Rage bait works, but it’s not the only path, it’s just the fastest way to get spikes.

What actually helped me grow was leaning harder into a recognizable style instead of chasing formats. If someone sees your post in isolation, they should still feel like it’s you. Humor, dark storytelling, satire all work, but consistency matters more than the category.

At that stage, distribution matters a lot too. I focused on replying to bigger accounts in my niche using the same tone as my posts, and turning one idea into multiple versions instead of trying to come up with something new every time. Posting more frequently also helped, but without overthinking each post.

Also, humor and satire don’t always get instant likes, but they do get follows if people connect with it. Most of my growth came from a few posts that felt different rather than ones that performed well in likes.

You don’t need to switch to rage bait, you just need to make your style sharper and easier to recognize so people remember you.

Rage bait is the fastest way to grow, but not the only way, and it often brings the wrong audience. Your humor and dark storytelling can work if you make it consistent and recognizable, not random. At the 500 to 5k stage, growth comes from repeatable formats, posting regularly, and engaging through replies on bigger accounts. You don’t need to change your style, you need to make it easier to notice and follow.

You are trying to grow a following on a nazi bot site. Racism, misogyny, homophobia and just general open violence is the way to go.

You could also try to grow a likeable and entertaining personality outside of a nazi bot platform though, but hey, just answering the question asked.

Respect for not chasing rage bait. Slow growth with authentic voice > cheap virality.

If you want to make it big on a platform that’s been taken over by sex predators, white supremacists, and domestic terrorists, that’s more bots than actual people then those are the people/bots you need to target.

I’ve noticed 500 followers+ your own content quality starts to matter more, avoid the controversial stuff and produce quality humor content. Your timeline will be cleaner and you’ll be able to grow in the niche.

Why do you have to grow your followers? It seems like everyone’s only goal is this instead of true socialization. I’m actually very disappointed with this style of social media. I mean, if you have a good thing to promote, fine, but otherwise, why rush to increase your followers instead of engaging in a relaxed conversation with people who share your tastes? A person’s value isn’t determined by their followers, but it seems everyone has forgotten this. It’s truly a distorted world, the world of social media, that has been diverted for you. I don’t like it at all. And I think you let the number of your followers influence you to believe in yourself more. And in my opinion, that’s wrong. Socializing is about having fun, not stressing yourself out.
