Grumpy SEO guy says to own blogs with authority so you can build your own backlinks
Posted by mike8111 on November 15, 2025 at 9:13 pmBeen doing SEO for maybe 7 years? I've always bought links through services. It works.
Grumpy SEO guy suggests in his video "everything you need to know about SEO in 38 minutes" that owning blogs with authority is a better way to go. Obvs.
But how are we getting these blogs? Are they for sale? Are we SEOing our own blogs over time?

GuestNovember 15, 2025 at 9:27 pmI have a few very niche blogs, or aimed at broad topics with low interest (like anthropology, …). I don’t spend to much time on them, writing 1 article a week/fortnight. I also create pretty no backlinks. Time is enough to raise DA, with little work.

GuestNovember 15, 2025 at 9:55 pmI buy blogs on Flippa and the ilk. Most blogs are severely overpriced and underdeveloped with no authority.
But sometimes you find a gem. This is a slow game.
Otherwise, I just roll my own blogs and hope for the best.

GuestNovember 15, 2025 at 10:00 pmIf you make useful content, people will naturally link to it.
PR done well can help your web strategy; but low quality link buying will not help you in Google Search (but it may in Bing, lmao)

GuestNovember 15, 2025 at 10:25 pmIt’s not a new concept. It’s just building a private network. Something many of us have been doing for 20 years.

GuestNovember 15, 2025 at 10:41 pmIt would be worth more to make social media contacts, email contacts to acquire blogs attached to domains, focusing not on content farms but legit interest blogs

Buying “authority blogs” exists, but it’s risky. Making your own sites and letting them age is the safer way. -

GuestNovember 16, 2025 at 1:06 amBuy expired domains at auctions. You need to do your due diligence, but this is the method he teaches early on in his podcast.

out of jokes, he’s right, it’s SEO 101, but it was easy to do years ago. Nowadays, not so much unless you’re really good and have resources.

He’s right
In a way it might sound like a great way to be rich is to get money and invest it.
But so is the advice “write great content and it will get free links” (even in jest)
You can also buy blogs from site owners that gave up or aren’t ranking as much and fisx them up

Honestly owning authoritative blogs feels sustainable than buying links, but it takes patience and strategy; even niches like Professional Dissertation Editing Help benefit from long term content building and trust.
