Google Ads: Maximise Clicks volume vs high intent campaign segmentation?

Posted by BrownieTB on May 9, 2026 at 3:38 pm

Say, I'm running a Maximise Clicks campaign (B2B Lead Gen) in which there are keywords which cost about $20 and are relatively high in volume, but convert frequently enough to warrant the expenditure. However, there are also $50 keywords which are much less voluminous but 4-5x as likely to convert.

In order to minimise CPCs, should I separate these keywords into two campaigns each with an appropriate maximum CPC, or should I put them both in the same campaign with a max CPC of $50 and let the algorithm do its thing?

You should separate those keywords into their own campaigns 100%.

Maximize clicks will do exactly that, so it’s going to spend all of the budget going for all the lower CPC keywords first.

I would split them out so you are getting coverage for both types of keywords.

If the intent levels are materially different, separate campaigns usually give you cleaner control over CPC caps, budgets, and search term quality.

split them, the algorithm will absolutely drown your $50 converters in cheap $20 clicks that look good on paper but dont actually close, i learned that the hard way before i started using ChadAd.s and now it catches that drift before i waste a week of budget
