From 900% ROAS to 200 within 15 days after taking advice of FB ads rep

    Hi everyone,

I have been running advantage shopping campaign since last 3 months and the results were great. Was getting sales worth £9000 with an ad spend of £900/month.

Had a call with FB ad rep, she suggested me to up my budget daily by 15% and I don’t know what happened to FB’s algorithm after that, it completely went downhill and has not been generating any sales at all.

The ad set had over 35 sales and was still in the learning page, she also suggested an optimization upgrade for the ad, and that threw off the adset to get down to 0 optimisations since a significant edit.

Been 15 days I have been spending £50/day. Have gotten 36 Add to Carts but only 4 checkouts.

    What could be wrong?

your facebook rep is just a sales rep in disguise. they will always tell you to spend money, but remember, you know more about your business than they do. they don’t care about your results, just your spend.

My team spends ~$750,000/week on facebook, and still their reps always try to give us generic strategic advice that always includes spending more money.

As with Google Ads reps, the Facebook reps want you to spend more and receive less. Reach out via PM if you’d like an expert to review the issue in detail.

Facebook has been doing SOMETHING for over a month now, as performance has plummetted for more and more advertisers. Take a look through this sub, /r/FacebookAds, etc and you’ll see what I mean.

So, with that said, I’d argue there’s a good chance you’re being hit by their algo being super super wacky right now and upping the budget triggered this to start happening in your account.

Could definitely be something else, but this is at least a possibility to consider.

My understanding is you up the budget 15% every 2-3 days, to be safe, 3 days. If want to be safest, 10% every 3 days.

Start anew. This adset is done now.

Your statistical significance is off now & the field is tainted.

And for the record, next time a FB/Google rep tells you to >spend more< or use some brand new gimmick while you’re making 9x ROAS, politely decline.

You can ask us experts here.

I’m convinced that these reps give you bad advice on purpose and then tell you that you need to raise your budget by a lot, promising a higher conversion rate – once you are spending way more.

Looks like you had your targeting on point, and all raising the budget did was increase your costs due to you having exhausted your audience. And the changes in stats then threw your campaign into a state of mess. I’d just rebuilt the campaign.
