Does Search Volume actually matter for PMax Search Themes?
Hello everyone,
I’m currently diving deeper into PMax Search Themes and would love to get your perspective on how you’re utilizing them.
My current setup: I’ve been feeding high-performing keywords from my Search Campaigns into my PMax Search Themes, and the ROAS has been solid so far. The format of pmax is “search theme+asset,” so there is no feed. However, I have a couple of strategic questions:
- How much weight should I give to Search Volume? I have several hyper-niche keywords that accurately define my products but show "Low Search Volume" in standard Search campaigns. Since PMax treats themes as signals rather than kws targeting, is it worth including these LSV terms to help the algorithm refine its audience modeling, or is it a waste of a slot?
- The "Broad Category" Dilemma. There’s a lot of conflicting advice regarding broad terms. Some say adding vague category terms dilutes the signal and causes PMax to "drift" into irrelevant traffic. What’s your experience? Do you keep your themes hyper-specific, or do you include a few broad terms to give the AI more room to explore?
Appreciate any thoughts!!
