  • Does Google engage in link-buying sting operations?

That is, do they send out spam, disguised as marketers, to bloggers and publishers, asking to buy links on their websites, and then after completing the transaction, delisting them from Google for violating the paid links rule?

I’m guessing this is something they would do to publishers they already suspect, and is a way to create the proof they need to delist.

    I very much doubt it.
Most paid links are blindingly obvious and could be picked up algorithmically

I highly doubt they are doing anything like that.

They never admitted it, but back just before Penguin came out they took down a bunch of public networks like Build My Rank, Authority Link Network, and others. I always suspected that they joined as a customer. All they would need is a couple of sites that are part of the network and it was painfully easy to unravel the whole thing.

It’s all ai now, I think part of them going this way was to remove lots of the human elements that were required to deal with this kind of thing, it would not be particularly good use of their time anyway

Google doesn’t need proof, so they don’t need to do this.
Those who know how to buy links won’t have anything to worry about, considering how poor Google are at cathing it. Only now have they properly managed to reduce the quality of PBN links.
