    Conversion Tracking Is Inaccurate

    Hello!

I’ve worked with several Google Ads and Google Tag Manager reps to fix an issue with my conversion tracking. So far, nobody has been able to help me, so I am hopeful someone on this subreddit can point me in the right direction.

What I am seeing is that campaigns will have 1:1 conversions and conversion values. As an example, a campaign might claim to have 9 conversions and the conversion value is $9. This is impossible because none of the products on my website cost $1. This happens sporadically. Some campaigns will have realistic conversion values per conversion, then those same campaigns will have the 1:1 conversion data the next day.

For context, I did not set up conversion tracking for this account. I have a general understanding of how to do this but I have never actually set it up for myself before. While trying to fix this issue, I took a look at the ‘Webpages’ tab on my conversion action in the settings menu. The tag is set up through Google Tag Manager to fire on the order confirmation page, however, the webpages tab will show that the tag fires on other pages, such as, the homepage and product pages (all product pages end in ‘.html’).

I went into tag manager and created exceptions that would, in theory, prevent the tag from firing on pages it was not supposed to. I added an exception that it should not fire on the homepage and it should not fire on any page that ends in ‘.html’. This has not worked, so the only other idea I have is to delete the tag and create a new one. But since I don’t actually know what is going wrong, I’m not confident this will work and I don’t want to create a worse problem.

Has anybody experienced this before? If so, how did you fix the issue? Any resources would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading!

Usually the $1 conversion value fires when either tag does not know what the value of the conversion is worth or the dynamic conversion value was set up incorrectly. You can set up tags to fire $1 as a backup option.
