Career Advice for someone in SEO for 10 years?
Hope this is allowed here, wanting to get input from the community on career pathing.
I’ve been working in SEO for about 10 years and have come to the realization that I am pretty bored with it in general and I want to do something more exciting.
It was my first job post college. I stayed with my first agency collectively for 9 years. That agency was around 100 people when I started as a coordinator, after being acquired and a couple more acquisitions later, it grew to about 700 people with around 30 just on the SEO team. I left this past summer as a director leading teams on accounts and spearheading website migration sales and project management.
I moved to a larger consulting firm as a Manager for their SEO team overseeing Technical + Strategic consultants and also managing about 8 client accounts. Not ideal to be splitting my time so much between trying to grow a team and manage so many clients.
I thought the change would help me find some renewed passion or interest but I’m definitely running on fumes trying to stay invested. I can’t tell if this is just the regular old burnout everyone seems to have these days or if it’s a sign that I should try something new.
Has anyone made a career change from SEO, if so what field? Any tips on what you did to make the change or what you were feeling when you decided you wanted the change?
Would also welcome any advice anybody has to maybe find a renewed sense of passion for SEO!
Thanks ?
