Can someone please help me clarify something about canonical tags?
Posted by on January 26, 2023 at 4:19 amThe concept of canonical tags makes sense to me, however, I’m having some trouble understanding exactly how to implement them.
Let’s say I have articles x, y and z that I want to canonicalize to article a. Do I place the rel canonical towards article a on articles x, y and z?

Article zNow the solution to your problem. Add rel Canonical tag to x,y, and z article.
Article x – Canonical to A
Article y – Canonical to A
Article z – Canonical to AI have a query, if xyz article is similar and non relevant, why don’t you use 301 redirection. Xyz article to A.

Yes, that is correct. You would place the rel canonical tag on articles x, y, and z, pointing to article a as the preferred version. This tells search engines that article a is the original or preferred version of those articles and that the other articles should be considered duplicate content and not indexed.

That is correct. But why bother adding canonicals? Just redirect them if you don’t want your readers to read articles x, y, z.

You needs add canonical if:Article “a” is full article
Article “x” is part of article “a”
Article “y” is part of article “a”

What are your guys feedback, if you have 2 articles that rank for the same keywords,will you then make the main article the canonical or just redirect to the main one.
