Building an SEO Agency Through SEO Only
Posted by TheStubbornOak on April 15, 2026 at 7:45 pmI am currently building an SEO Agency. As a proof of concept for future clients I am only doing SEO for marketing my own website to be an inbound engine as my biggest selling point to prospective clients. “How did you find our agency? We can do the same for your business.”
Through two months here are the numbers:
• 11 Clicks
• 35.5k Impressions
• 0 SEO Leads

GuestApril 15, 2026 at 8:35 pmThis is hilarious. How many months will you do this for before you admit you don’t have an SEO agency and in fact don’t have anything?

GuestApril 15, 2026 at 8:43 pmNot a bad approach. You are already generating impressions, so you now need to find out why your CTR is so low.
The number of leads is currently statistically insignificant, as there is too little data to infer a trend. For example, you currently have a 0% on-site conversion rate. If the next click results in a lead, your conversion rate would jump to 8%, which is extremely high for the industry. This demonstrates why the data is unreliable until you have more volume.

GuestApril 15, 2026 at 8:56 pmIf it works that’s great.
I own a successful seo/ digital marketing agency and ironically have never put any SEO work into my own website. All my business has been referrals and word of mouth. We just use our successful campaigns as case studies for prospective clients. -

Are you doing any local SEO, like naming your city or neighborhood?
And are you targeting any specific industries? I think these days most small to medium size businesses are familiar enough with SEO that it might make sense to run some posts around SEO for plumbers or attorneys using those keywords.

GuestApril 15, 2026 at 10:32 pmThe thing is, obviously SEO for agencies is super super competitive. The thing is though, and take it from me he works in sales for an agency.
Most agencies are awful at sales and sales process.
I understand your idea but trust me if you get great at sales calls, use a good structure like Sandler submarine, get very good at how to ask for referels, join networking groups, use a CRM and follow up religiously you’ll get to your goals much, much faster.
Also, even if you do get good organic leads coming in you want to be taking advantage of that organic traffic and extending the traffic value by using something like META retargeting ads that are really cheap and growing your email list.
If you’ve ever played a strategy game, you’ll know that combining units and things have a compounding effect. Don’t think of marketing channels as separate it’s all a interconnecting Web.

GuestApril 16, 2026 at 12:20 amYou are getting impressions, so that is a plus. If you can raise your CTR you can definitely scale off of that. It is going to take time but hang in there.

GuestApril 16, 2026 at 1:48 amBacklinko did this, and they’re still at the top.
Honestly if you can pull it off? Amazing source of leads.
It’s a little like trying to walk on to an NBA team. There may be some people who can do it, but not many that we haven’t already heard of.

GuestApril 16, 2026 at 1:50 amThis is what I did, I’ve managed to build an agency and clients purely through SEO, no spend – just wordpress. I support it with organic social but I get leads via the site mostly, it instantly establishes you can do SEO as that’s how they find your services – good luck!
