Depends on the content, really. If your audience is more on Instagram and your content is visually engaging, Reels could work better. But if you’re after broader reach and want to tap into YouTube’s search and algorithm, Shorts might be the way to go. Both have their strengths!

YouTube Shorts reach a wider audience while Instagram Reels are better for engagement.

Insta reels are more focused on consuments, and Youtube shorts are more focused on giving YT creators feedback on their content

In recent months I have noticed that a massive chunk of influencers, especially those who are US based are moving to yt shorts. Might be due to the fact that tik tok was supposed to be banned and creators got scared. I know that ig and yt are two different platforms, meaning there are two completely different audience to target, but people are also getting slowly fed up with the Instagram. Well, at least I know I am lol. The thing with Instagram is, Adam Mosseri does not listen to the audience giving him feedback about things they don’t like. He’s not going to pay the creators, because there would be no ROI (RIDICULOUS), it’s getting harder and harder to reach a new audience unless you pay for your content to be promoted (short term solution tho), and the most annoying thing of all is when you are on your „home” tab you cannot see the content from people you follow. Like wtf? If I wanted to find new creators/content I would just hit „discover”. I am absolutely fed up with instagram and their ad on ad strategies. Another thing is, yt might be able to gain even more popularity in the near future due to tiering policies of streaming platforms, as an example you can think of Netflix and how their destroyed their USP via destroying the ability to share the account with other people. Sorry about my rant & if you’ve read through it all, thank you and have a lovely day 🤗

If I choose outside those two options, I will go with choosing Tiktok shorts. It’s better than both of them.

They serve different purposes (and will depend on your channel/audience).

    For us:

Reels = by FAR the bigger source of views/engagement
Shorts = huge channel referral tool, leading to more long-form content views (and therefore revenue). Something like 60% of our channel’s views are driven by shorts right now, even if the performance of the shorts themselves are not spectacular.

YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels each have their perks. Shorts are great for discoverability and YouTube’s strong monetization, while Reels excel at engagement and creative tools on a visually driven platform. If you’re aiming for broader reach, Shorts might be better, but if you want high engagement and cool editing options, go with Reels. Using both can also be a solid strategy to maximize your audience engagement.
