First off, I wanted to pay for a phone consult to an SEO expert I trust. I asked Yoast SEO if they do anything like that and they said no. So if you know someone, please share. I'm happy to take everyone's thoughts and feedback on this, as I'm going to put some very serious thought into this decision.

For years we've had a multisite setup using sub-folders. Because of my business's changes and the evolution of web design, it might not be as beneficial as it once was.

At the time we had one service line that was outdated and 90% of my content was around it, so while we were building up the newer service lines, Google didn't care because we were seen as the authority around the old one. So the new topics we were trying to build business around weren't ranking well.

The end users also don't appreciate all this content in the top nav that's irrelevant to them, so I broke people off into child sites based on the blog posts/sales pages they hit, and have custom main navs to keep them focused. Most humans probably have no clue they are technically on different sites, as the domain is always the same.

Now, that old service line content is almost all gone, and we have done well ranking for the things that really matter. I also have an easy way to still customize the main nav based on their interests with global layouts and filtering with my theme.

We use a broadcast plugin to duplicate blog posts, with the parent always being canonical. So really, it's only the static pages or sales pages that help the child sites rank.

There are about 6 child sites. For the most part, they are related topics. I'm considering dissolving the multisite and putting everything back under the main domain. I worry about Google seeing us as authority for only the topics that have the most content marketing, like before.

Any advise or referrals to SEO experts that have experience with this, let me know. I am capable of doing all this myself, I always have. I just need a good voice of reason.

    Thanks!
