The elon musk buying Twitter and laying off over half the workers. I’ve also read a report that claims millions have already left Twitter, could we see reddit it a huge boost in new users? Especially with the what seems to me the right wing more likely to use Twitter and other social media autlets more the left leaning. Reddit has always been a bit more left leaning so I feel like that would be a reason for new users to flock.

I don’t see that happening, here you can’t just post your rant, there are discussions, plus the downvote will make 90% of the usual Twitter messages invisible

reddit is not social media, it is a social bookmarking withb forum features, on twitter you can follow people or topics, you can say anything in seconds without someone approve or remove your shit-posting… this is huge different

Twitter users will remain on Twitter. There’s no alternative for them imo.

the platforms have very different value propositions.

Twitter is an endless pool of poorly edited content, off-the-cuff thoughts, breaking news, other real-time alerts, and automated bot activity.

Reddit is a forum heavily focused on content providing value to a user. It’s like a crowdsourced google in a way – with a variety of opinions weighing in on a subject to help someone arrive at their own conclusion.

Nope. Twitter works because of the retweets and the real time aspect of it

A single tweet can go viral like crazy within seconds, which is a perfect tool for politicians, journalists, live events, breaking news…

Reddit can’t compete with that because it’s not designed that way.

Also the “drama” is not as big as it seems. Just some people talking really loud.

The silent majority just doesn’t care and will continue to use twitter unless it proves to be an absolute nightmare…

And for that to happen, it would need to be like a “dark web forum” kind of nightmare, which is just not happening no matter how many people think elon’s idea of free speech would get to that point.
