  • Why Isn’t Google Using My Meta Description?

Posted by WayProfessional1126 on October 19, 2023 at 6:14 pm

Any ideas why Google doesn’t pull our meta descriptions? It just pulls random words like our address and phone number which doesn’t look as good in the SERPs as a nice solid description with keywords. This has been going on for years and it’s related to the HCU.

Why is this happening? Is there anything that can be done?

Check your meta description relevance. If Google does not see what your meta description is saying, or feels it is insufficient or inappropriate (on poge) it will auto fill from page content

Your meta description has to fit the page and should be echoed in the first paragraph

IIRC… Google *may* use your meta description. Or they may use content from your site.

Google is less likely to trust the meta description tag on low authority sites and will try to build its own description from text on your page. To prevent this, you need to make sure that the text in your meta description appears in an important place in your page and use the “data-nosnippet” HTML attribute for text you don’t want to appear in the SERP description. Your section containing your address and phone number should be covered by a “data-nosnippet” HTML attribute and they’ll no longer appear in the SERP description.
