Why Do Influencers Scam When Their Reputation is Everything?
I'm genuinely curious about something—why do influencers scam brands, especially when their reputation is such a huge part of their success? Like, if I wanted to, I could easily reach out to future brands or agencies they're working with and share my experience. Wouldn't that impact their ability to get more gigs in the future? Not to mention, if a brand or person decides to publicly call them out, it could end up ranking on search engines (which hopefully this post will do).
I was recently scammed Rosalie Dupont (_rosaliedupont) from Quebec Canada and she agreed to take some photos in my merch. She said I had to pay first. It being only $90, and seeing her work with multiple Canadians brands already I was okay with it and thought there was no way I would get scammed. It was delivered in July and after months of excuses (sick, travelling etc) she blocked me and deleted her messages. Luckily I screenshot the convo early cause I got a bad vibe from her.
I know it's only $90, but I've read about brands losing thousands to scams like this. I just don't understand why a public figure who relies on their reputation and the public’s support would risk it all for a scam. Does anyone else have experiences like this? What’s the best way to handle it?
