When to increase max CPC bid on new shopping campaign?

Posted by Eurogains on July 3, 2024 at 6:48 pm

New account, new campaign, single product (supplement). Reasonable competition, not extremely competitve, but definitely competitive.

Substantial monthly search volume for the related keywords.

I have looked at the keywords Google is showing my product for and they're very relevant – the detailed title and description etc. I provided seems to have worked in the feed.

The issue I am having is just low number of impressions. Over the last 3 days I've had 3858 impressions and 13 clicks on an upward trend and the CTR is also improving – CPC is £1.20.

I'm looking for a much much higher volume for this project to be successful.

I know that it takes a few days for things to heat up, but I wonder if upping my bid at this stage is worth doing or whether I should sit tight.

My bid is £1.50. Do you think it's worth trying to up to to £2.00 or £2.50?

    Any advice most welcome!

You can try to look at columns in Google ads to see why impression share is being lost. Otherwise, I would test a higher CPC and see what happens. Either you will see more impressions after 3 – 5 days or you won’t….it could take a day-ish to see the impact of an increased CPC if it doesn’t happen right away.

There’s columns/data such as “benchmark cpc” that might help but I’ve never found it that reliable tbh. So yes , bids and/or budget to up a bit in stages.

Look at what your average CPC is for the keywords you have on Google Keyword Planner or the Benchmark CPC column. Based on what data you see, you can tell whether or not the max CPC you set is too low. Either way, increase it incrementally and see the impact and stay very detailed in your targeting.
