What’s your proudest hack in PPC that drove insane results for your client?

Posted by just-ppc on August 18, 2023 at 10:53 am

I once unflagged the location settings of a Google Search campaign from “Presence or Interest” to just “Presence” for a client of 40+ optical shops and my CPL went from €90 to €25 (**-72%**) in a matter of days.

That’s not a hack. That’s standard campaign setup.

I turned off their campaigns and they saved 100% on spend!

At the end of the month, I moved $200,000 in budget from 1 underperforming group of bad campaigns to another over performing group of good campaigns for reporting time. ROAS looked better for the bad campaigns and volume potential increased for the others.

I wouldn’t say insane results but rewriting a description line and adding quotes has always produced better CTR for me.

For example, for an Italian restaurant, you could write something like – Amazing Pizza. Pasta from scratch. Gelatto in 21 flavors.

    Or –

“Wow. Pizza was amazing. Homemade pasta delicious. And so many gelatto flavors.”

The quotes make it feel like a testimonial or social proof even though I’m the one who wrote it.

That’s not a hack, that’s just proper set up (fixing someone else’s error)

Put 0% finance related keywords into their own adgroup for a luxury product and distributed most spend into that adgroup.

ROI went from around 200% to around 1000%.

Sometimes need to dig down to keyword level to understand what is and isn’t making you money.

Edit: appreciate this isn’t really a hack. More just common sense. But a lot of agencies I have come across just whack all their keywords into one adgroup and get crap results.

That’s not so much of a hack, and more “the thing you absolutely should do”. Like blocking all mobile apps. And not doing broad match.

My hack – for my own campaigns lol.

Fb ads, using leadgen campaign AND messenger campaigns resulting in $1 leads, sometimes down to 70 cents. (When i use landing pages, my CPL can often get up to $10)

The secret? My image is simply a text headline that calls out a MAJOR benefit/desire, and with a time constraint (example without exposing my niche “how to triple your ROAS by changing 1 setting in fb ads”)

    That’s it.

Landing page optimization and test without a doubt. In services industry, from search average 30% of clicks/visitors become leads. That’s up from 17-20% just a couple of years ago. Now if only I could get the cost per lead to go down ????

Not really proud of that one, but a newly hired senior once put the headline 1 in all 3 headline fields for a client. Basically said something like “Category X vs Category Y” because it is a very common search term. But the ad had that headline x3. When I noticed it, the CTR was 26%. I considered leaving it in for a second, but it would have reflected badly on us, so we just adapted it. Results dropped a bit, but not significantly which I was very relieved by.

not really a hack, but overriding the major parts of the feed that Google uses. ROAS double vs tROAS and now the main Pmax campaigns spends £120k a day with a higher profit return to previous.

Company love it, but still won’t admit the website is terrible and it needs to change.
