  • what’s the direction social media is going to take in the coming years?

From the trends I can see, social media initially began from the genuine intent to connect loved ones through common updates, be it photos, tweets, etc. This grew into then finding others whom you didn't know earlier but shared common interests with. Social media now seems to be a feed of different type of contents, some which or may not have much in common with what you're interested in, but essentially the intent now is for the social media platform to put forward content that can be potentially monetized and bring back money, and this is taking precedence over the original intent of connecting with loved ones. There's also the rise of this "influencer" culture wherein folks put up content that many of their "fans" follow, indirectly setting cultural trends that they will take up. That being said, many are apparently disillusioned with it, and are seeking for a revival of the old school social media. So my question now is what are your opinions on what the future of social media will be like? Will new platforms arise? Or will the monopoly be held by a select few? Will there be new concepts for social media platforms to put forward? Or is there a sort of stagnation point which is now just an endfless feed of images, and short video content?

AI will be used more for almost everything and it’s going get worse in terms of user’s experience.

We’ve built a social media super app in live beta that has the following based on tons of consumer input:

    1. TikTok like feed, Twitter like feed and Facebook like feed all in one app.

    2. No bots, privacy tracking or selling data.

    3. Businesses can sell and consumers can purchase everything (products, services and subscriptions) directly on Jabburr, allowing businesses to 10x their conversion rate and consumers to have a better experience.

    4. No algorithms pushing 3rd party influencers. Users see their friend’s posts first.

    5. Real customer service with an actual person.

    6. Ad costs about 85% less than Instagram.

    7. Create your own mini app and eliminate the cost to build and maintain a website.

This is the first step in the next era of social media. Then we get into the future tech with A/R, simplified payments including peer to peer with face ID only, etc.

I believe there will be an Xodus – journos/brands/governments will leave X based on the direction Musk is taking it. AI will play a bigger role, there may be growth in servicing with a greater focus on CX and brands will continue to use it to market products and services. I agree that social media has moved from relationship to aspiration-based.

Social media is THE future, and it seems very promising. Being in the social media industry, I believe more and more platforms will arise because, lately, if we look around, Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon apps are all NEW and somehow replicate already launched apps. I believe it will improve and not just be an endless stream of media.

Social media is likely to keep changing. We might see new platforms that focus on real connections instead of just ads and influencers. People are getting bored with the current style, so there could be fresh ideas coming soon. It’s hard to say for sure, but things will keep evolving.

social media will always be evolving day by day. There might be new platforms coming up where people can connect on a deeper level. But most probably content creators and influencers will keep influencing on social media and dominate the market as it is very profitable for them. AI would also play a huge role in sm as well. It already is……

Speaking from a YouTuber perspective, we are rebounding back to more natural style of content. The days of sensationalism appear to be fading and folks just want to connect with real people in real time doing real things . So to answer your question, I think anything that promotes real life activities is probably going to reign for a little while. Maybe we’re coming back to a hybrid of the original Facebook but with people you’re not friends with quite yet.

FB is dreadful. Instagram has been killed off by META and is past its peak in my opinion. Tik Tok not too sure not on it… what’s is left?

Social isn’t the cash cow it once was. With the AI boom, neither big tech nor startups are investing in developing social media. In fact, brands like Facebook and Twitter that cut their teeth on social are now distancing themselves from it.

As long as there’s a social component to human life, you’ll find it online. But we may find ourselves at a point where “social media” as an industry diffuses into broader culture. There will no doubt be new platforms, but they’ll likely continue down the path of either TikTok (algorithm-selected content delivery) or Discord (insular, decentralized community networking).
