What upsets you the most about this industry?
Posted by filthy_seo on August 5, 2024 at 3:43 pmI’ll go first. All these “agencies” or “experts” that read a Neil Patel blog one time and think they can make a business around it. Ruin people’s websites and businesses because they don’t know what they’re doing it. It’s usually small businesses too.
What really grinds your gears about our industry!?

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 4:07 pmThe flood of so called uni graduates coming out and starting their own seo freelance without even doing “Real” internship or have little experience in writing other than school project. Worst is when there are ppl dumb enough to hire them and suddenly they said SEO scam.
You go to Uni, Learn from a Professor who never once do SEO in their life, learned from books and research compiled and collected years ago. That’s why i always ask anyone who join my company, whats your Experience?

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 4:07 pmHonestly, I like writing SEO content because I’m quite good at it and it pays *really* well…
But it’s kind of ruining the internet. And it doesn’t really do anything for the world, either.
Plus, it’s kind of boring.
Maybe I’m just jaded…I’ve been doing it for 10 years and have worked with some of the biggest SaaS brands out there… but I’ve been feeling a bit meh lately. At the end of the day, it’s a job…I just wish I was qualified to do something more meaningful and still get a decent salary, hahaha

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 4:21 pmCompletely agree. The gurus are not only annoying, but they’ve taken so much of the finesse out of the industry and turned it into an astrology-like set of rules and notions. So much of SEO’s common wisdom is outdated because it’s the same people parroting the same tips from 5-10 years ago.

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 4:23 pmSEO has a very low barrier to entry, and anybody can learn some basic SEO 101s and masquerade as an “SEO.” The problem is that people seeking SEO services usually can’t tell the difference, which enables these chauvinists to keep advertising their “expertise.”
More than 90% of people offering SEO services are chauvinists and scammers (knowingly or unknowingly). Hey, you! You reading this. There is a 90% chance you are one of these people.
# Read the following very carefully:
If you have never taken a client with a high difficulty keyword with high search volume (~10k searches per month) from a rank of >50 to top 5, then you DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO SEO.

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 4:24 pm1. Companies that claim to have a “secret sauce”
2. YouTube gurus that make outlandish claims for click bait.
3. Companies that claim XYZ results or work for free.
4. Anybody doing bad SEO as it gives our industry a bad wrap. -

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 4:24 pmIt “dies” every time google does an update. Horsehit. It doesn’t die. You just have to get better and maybe consider other traffic sources.

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 4:25 pmFake experts who hurt small businesses are a big problem.
**Other issues:**
* Black hat tactics
* False promises
* Old methods
* Not being honest
* Making SEO seem too easy These things upset many in the industry. -

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 5:26 pmWhat Upsets me the most?
Watching everyone desperately trying to use software or AI to do their jobs for them, then getting upset that their own laziness is what fucked their rankings.

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 5:27 pmHonestly, people not realizing that SEO will not be a thing in the next 4-5 years. Everything will be automated and LLMs will only get better before you realize how important AI is for your sites’ SEO. Stop listening to the general public that doesn’t know anything by what they see on Fox or CNN bc they’re just hiding the fact that AI will take over the ENTIRE internet. From developing (except the devs for LLMs), designers, SEO, copywriters, general maintenance on a fucking site. The only one I think will not take over due to the amount of personality it needs to grow and move forward is social.
Social media can’t be done with AI, we still need real faces, with real emotions and real stories. -

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 7:01 pmProblem is seo keeps changing, companies that were able to rank u 2 years ago can’t any more because of updates. Or things that used to work doesn’t any more. But the basic for seo is easy, create good content, create good user experience and get high quality backlinks.

GuestAugust 5, 2024 at 8:52 pmHow other firms use fear to steal clients. I’ve lost a few clients over the years because the competition told the client how”bad” of a job I’ve done. They completely ignore the proof – rankings and traffic increases – and instead throw out useless crap like “well they don’t use h1 tags or alt tags on every page” and then convince the client that this will get them penalized.
Too many of these supposed experts rely on a generic audit done by some piece of software, they throw their logos on it and sell it as an authentic SEO audit that they’ve spent hours or days on.
I can tell you from my own experience, I actually have completed several audits over my 2 decades of experience without using some half baked piece of crap software, that these auto-generated pieces of crap they pass off as legitimate really pi$$es me off.
