What is wrong with my conversion tracking?

Posted by MarcuscookSEO on August 22, 2024 at 2:41 pm

So I have a GADS account that has a couple of different client accounts in it (not an MCC account). I have created conversion actions for both phone calls and lead forms, but for months now, neither of my conversions had been firing.

I never really cared because I had call tracking software in place to show me how many calls were coming in every month, but now I want to make sure GADS is properly recording these actions incase I ever want to switch my goal to conversions.

I just found out today that I was setting up my tag manager incorrectly. My tag type for my phone calls was "Google Ads Conversion Tracking" and not "Google Ads Calls from Website Conversion." I'm hoping this will fix the issue (I will only be able to tell once I get a phone call), but I can't understand how I can match my conversion actions to my campaigns.

For example, I have two "Calls from Website" conversion actions and two campaigns. I want to attribute Conversion action 1 to Campaign 1 and Conversion Action 2 to campaign 2. However, I cannot figure how to do this.

When I check my campaign settings, I can set Conversion goals to submit lead forms and phone call leads, but I can't select a specific lead form or specific phone call lead, so I have no clue how GADS will be able to differentiate which calls should be associated to which campaign. Any help here would be greatly appreciated

Think I may have answered my own question. You need to create a custom conversion action and assign both Lead Form submissions and calls from ads to that conversion action.
