I’m curious to hear everyone’s thoughts and if you have experience with something similar. In this example, say brand 1 is an existing business with high domain authority. Brand 1 gets bought buy parent company who has less domain authority. What would be the impact of moving the brand site to a sub domain on the parent company site…say http://www.brand1.parentcompany.com

It will be recorded as a new website. If you use the same content, then Google will see it as a copy and increase the previous site; and kinda rank you lower.

So on the new site, have new content. Don’t use the same stuff for SEO rank.

Assuming everything is migrated as is and proper 301 redirects are put in place, you will see the subdomain rank the same or about the same as the old domain over time.

It might take a little bit for Google to figure out the redirects based on the size of the site, but if everything is done properly, the rankings won’t change much, if at all.

the impact is destroying your rankings possibly permanently, definitely for a few days to sort the 301s out

if your rankings are very healthy, then it is safer

if you have mountains and crags in your search console performance, don’t try it without serious seo consulting help

lmk if you have any other questions
