so as of now I see a progression from images to short form video or a text best feed with pics and videos (like twitter or thread), what's the next big thing we can see for social media?

I think anonymous browsing like Reddit will be popular “next”. The current gen are so keen on followers, the next gen will rebel and not want that ie anonymity.

I would love to see a come back of old school social media. When content types were a per app thing, so you don’t have 10 different types of formats on the same app.
