what do you think about blogging’s effect on SEO?
Posted by seo_boo on October 6, 2022 at 8:55 amI see so many SEOs discussing whether blogging is necessary or not for SEO.
Wondering about your thoughts on that…

GuestOctober 6, 2022 at 11:09 amHi!
This is a good question.
If created adequately, the blog section really will add a kick to SEO.
However, such a section is not necessary for your SEO campaign, should the rest of your website is well optimized and meets the search engines’ requirements for quality content.
However, if you wish to include a blog section – go fo it, there’s nothing to lose, really.
Hopefully this is helpful,
Regards!

GuestOctober 6, 2022 at 2:24 pmabsolutely not necessary. we were ranking sites long before blogs were even a thing and a significant portion of sites don’t have or need them.

GuestOctober 6, 2022 at 5:33 pmI think it depends on your niche and how much content you can produce.
For long tail keywords it can be really good in drawing in traffic but then you have to make sure you correctly direct users to your “money” pages.

GuestOctober 6, 2022 at 5:45 pmi think it can be very valuable … unless you’re in my industry. my company is an auction site that works in mainly farm / construction equipment. had a blog going for several months and had it promoted on our socials; combined views over the almost year was less than a 1,000 (almost 5m users on site YTD). basically, it completely depends on the industry in my opinion
EDIT: totally would like to find another job

GuestOctober 7, 2022 at 12:56 amI would say as long as its relevant content.
For example, if you’re working on a dental clinic website, you want to write supporting content for each service page you create. Then, of course, link those posts to that service page and so on.So many dental clinic strategies… I know a lot about teeth.

Typical blog type content is often helpful and answers user queries. It is also more likely to get linked to than “money” pages.
But there is an SEO myth that you must publish excessively regularly which leads to content for the sake of content. The copyrighter often has a “schedule” they must meet to publish X articles a week.
Problem with this is more/regular content tactic is it is not better for SEO if it isn’t generating audience. This means an increased loyal user base.
So, often a site keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger without increasing audience so the crawl rate doesn’t increase proportionally with the size of the site. If crawl budget doesn’t increases, there is less and less crawl being distributed to the sites more important pages and the entire site starts to lose performance. People will often start claiming “Google is not crawling my most recent articles.”
Problem is, the more content you publish that isn’t remarkable/popular, the more data Google has to reinforce its confidence that the site should not rank well. You can actually keep feeding negative data to the algorithm hurting your chance of success. More isn’t better.
Write fewer really well researched articles with solid data to back up the premise.
Develop the skills to grow and engage with an audience so when you publish something someone is actually listening.
Blogging can be rocket fuel for a site, it can also be a sea anchor holding it back.
