  • What do you consider acceptable uses of ChatGPT?

    My company is very new to SEO and when ChatGPT came out, we, like many, immediately agreed that we shouldn’t use to to write content because it would be low quality and potentially considered plagiarism. But as the tool matures and new use cases emerge, I find myself wanting to use it for things like generating SEO-optimized blog titles, meta tags, creating outlines, etc.

    We have a few blog posts that are underperforming, and I’m fairly certain it’s partly due to my coworkers writing terrible headlines for them. I asked GPT to generate better options and I’m on the fence about re-publishing the blogs with these machine generated titles to see how they improve.

    Anybody else in a similar boat or have insights here?

    You can literally use it in any way with the understanding that platforms like google might be able to recognize ai generated content and punish you in some way. Otherwise have a go as the whole world learns together

    I think the emergence of AI is an earthquake in the world of SEO, even though many people may not realize it yet.

    “Producing” text content of “acceptable” quality will become super-simple, with very low entry barriers, which will probably result in a flood of new websites in many niches, making it extremely difficult to rank for anything in the long run.

    Market oversaturation (due to different reasons) has practically killed stock photography. The same might happen to SEO. You can’t win against mathematics.

    It’s foolish to discount any technology outright like that. GPT has its uses and can be an excellent tool. It can also be used to pump out masses of low-quality posts. All depends on how you decide to use it.

    Everything is acceptable until you learn you can get penalized. We are at an early stage still.

    Page titles and Meta Descriptions aren’t ranking factors and Google also changes those our as it deems necessary to their SERPs. Using Chat GPT with the correct prompts can give you a fairly good output and it shouldn’t hurt your rankings. What those elements are mainly for are users and improving the CTR, but again if Google switches your meta description there’s not a ton to worry about unless you just want to keep busy work on your deliverables for the clients.

    If you do blogs with it edit, add some personalization and that should give you enough room for it to not get picked up as AI content, though from tests I’ve witnessed so far Google is really behind the curve and does not seem to be picking up on AI content yet.

    GPT helps people produce content quick.

    The issue is if that content actually takes into account the intent of the searcher.

    I think what a lot of these “new marketers” don’t understand is that content for the sake of content isn’t worth a damn. GPT can’t tell you that your webpage is dogshit and won’t convert leads.

    Recently I’ve been working with my PPC guy more and more to understand how interconnected we are – we both know Google is pay to play so we’re coming up with ways to make pages and websites that inform and convert.

    Another thing to consider – Bard and GPT may very well fail or get shoved back in the box. There are ALOT of concerns about how these models got their information…an early copy of GPT4 as a web browser straight up scraped the net for a guys personal info.

    There WILL be a legal fight over these programs – I’m also fairly sure Google got caught copying GPT in some cases.

    That said, I use GPT for research and outlines. I then edit from there. My goal is to speed up my process but not without reason.

    I think your issue boils down to your writing team – I have had to learn the hard way that this game ultimately falls down to GOOD keyword research.

    GPT can’t do that yet -it’s not updated in real time. Hell even when it’s outta the box…I doubt it’ll still be any good.

    However – you can ask it “does this keyword work for buyer intent”

    Use it dude. But don’t forget quality while using it. Make the best benefit from it while doing other tasks like social media marketing, storytelling, learning new skills, getting keyword ideas or brainstorming.

    You’ll do good.
    Indeed AI has disrupted SEO market, but we need very high quality articles to rank in good competitions keywords.

    Otherwise you’ll rank lower or for low traffic KW.

    I usually have to write briefs that tell the writer what the audience for a post is. ChatGPT generally gives good answers to the question “What kind of person searches Google for [keyword]” though I sometimes need to tune the prompt a little.

    That’s why it’s important to collect emails. If you capture the visitor’s email by giving away a free ebook, you then own the traffic (email traffic). You’re no longer at the mercy of Google’s algorithm changes.

    It all depends on whats your intent with the use of CHATGPT. We use it mainly for prompts such as chatbot

    Stop making stupid mistakes that cripple you compared to your competitors just because you have idealism about how work should be done. It’s an archaic way of thinking and will get your business nowhere.

    AI Titles aren’t going to get you in trouble. Your SEO “strategy” (aka list of tactics) is really out of date. In a way – to draw a different view – its like you’re tackling it as a religious incantation – that you somehow have to find a magic recipe of things to do to get some reward from another being in another dimension.

    Firstly, meta-tags that are hidden don’t boost your website or, add authority. Google doesnt’ read meta-tags, it never has.

    Getting traffic in Google has two gates: 1) Google and then People. Reading the advice/thought processes here, people tend to think if they create headlines for people and then publish it, after people come, Google will rank them. Just this week somebody asked if they wrote a great article that doesnt rank, how long will it take for people to find them and link to them. The answer is never, but that didn’t stop 50% of people telling that OP to just wait. lol.

    Here’s the problem with “terrible” headlines and subjective terminology or attempts at grading something subjectively. People default to writing headlines for people. The problem is that your site’s content, authority, history, and general ranked topics are what are going to indicate how you’re future content is going to rank.

    Most people write headlines as if they’re working at a major news site/blog site or have a massive sponsored audience in LinkedIn and “just have to stand out”. Low and behold, ChatGPT thinks this way too.

    The problem is that clickbait headlines (read: eye catching, “great headlines” etc) only work if you have an audience. For any trending topinc – that generally means that just 10 posts have eyeballs, everyone else doesn’t.

    If your content only ranks for content with low search values, you’ll get to 1 but little traffic. If you dont have the authority and try to go broad, this will backfire too.

    Here’s how content and onpage/meta-content works. Lets say you want to rank for “Cisco VPN recall” – then those are your page title, H1 and general content flow. Done. The more you add, the more indices you will span and the more spread out your pages authority will be. Its just that simple.
