    Using competitor name

Posted by Ok-Nothing1301 on June 8, 2023 at 5:04 pm

So I used a couple of competitors name as keyword and I had the ad copy to auto rotate in one of the variations it looked like

brand name – best product buy from us.

The competitor found out and called us, I’ve removed it.

Anything to be cautious about? We do bid for our brand name not worried about that anything else to keep in mind ?

You can’t use a competitor name in an ad in most cases. But you can use the brand name as a keyword and then create copy around your value props and how they measure up. For example:

    – See what makes us better
    – Get 3X more value with (your brand)
    – Stop overpaying for (product example)

As far as what to worry about, just don’t use the brand name in your ad copy, it’s a violation of Google terms and could create issues with the competitor (like a bidding war or a lawsuit).

    Hope this helps.

If you bid on competitor branded terms, don’t use dynamic keyword insertion either.

Advertisers can bid on a competitor keyword, brand name etc… regardless of trade mark, only trademarked texts are prohibited from being used. You really don’t have anything to worry about and can run your campaign as long as you can figure out a walk around.
