    US only targeting, Leads coming in from other countries

    Posted by DragonfruitKiwi572 on August 20, 2024 at 1:09 pm

    Pulling my hair out over this account. It's a dental office in California. Triple checked targeting, only CA zips and neighborhoods and a 4 mile radius around the office. I even excluded South Africa as I discovered some forms coming from there (Even verified that it was a real person as I found them on Instagram and it checked out). Shut off all search and display partners so google search netword only. Changed location targeting to presence only.

    Also linked the account up with clickcease. At a loss, can someone help? I just cannot figure out why the ads are getting these out of country conversions??

    You’ve hit the usual suspects

    * Search Partners
    * Display Expansion
    * Location – “presence in, or regularly in”

    Next steps is adding exclusionary blocking for all countries outside the US and all states outside of California. You can grab a list and do it through Google Ads Editor in like 5 minutes using the API list of locations – https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/data/geotargets

    Thinking outside the box – the list of targeted locations doesn’t include something like an international airport like LAX in it?

    Let me know if that helps. I like troubleshooting weird cases like these.

    clickcease won’t do anything

    search for them using the search box on reddit

    Hmmm is it display only or search as well ? SA is English speaking so there could be a duplicate brand name in the same niche? What do your search terms say?

    Still doesn’t make sense since you’re blocking everything but worth a shot

    There is a setting under location that might need to be toggled. The default is “People in, regularly in, or who’ve shown interest in your included locations.”

    If that is checked, switch it to the second option, “People in or regularly in your included locations”

    If that doesn’t work, maybe you’ll have to get more aggressive with your excluded locations.

    I’m having the same issue and it seems to be stemming from a PMAX campaign. What I just did was change the location to presence only, blocked the spam countries, and then added a recaptcha to my form. If this does not work I will block the free email providers from my form next.
