  • UK Company with a .com domain

I do local SEO for American clients. I was put in contact with a London company looking for local SEO help. Their website is currently on a .com rather than a .uk. Does anyone know if this makes a real difference in the rank potential? Would it be smart to get the .uk domain and migrate content there?

Any insight on international/UK-based SEO would be appreciated!

This depends: what are their current rankings, and do they only serve the UK?

Essentially what you’re asking is “should we move this property to a ccTLD instead of an existing gTLD”. Without knowing more information, I would suggest buying the ccTLD and redirecting it to your .com.

All other things being equal it certainly seems easier to rank a .co.uk here.

But plenty .com’s end up ranking well…

If you had an established .com I’d stick with it. If are starting from a blank slate I’d go with the .co.uk.

It’s irrelevant. EMDs haven’t been a thing for years. Go with what suits your audience…. Com if it’s international, .uk or .co.uk if it’s limited to the UK or europe. Many Americans don’t know what a .co.uk is.

It’s depend upon on you how to serve that urls in UK. If you have received users from UK then it’s good for go with. Com otherwise if you choose Co.uk then get easy to ranking in UK country. But all things depends upon your users.

Buy both TLD’s. Leave the site on the .com and set a redirect on the co.uk
