    Turned off Google Search Partners. Conversions dropped by 40% very next day. Normal?

    Posted by MikeMonopoly on July 20, 2023 at 10:43 pm

    Hey guys,

    So, I turned off search partners yesterday on all high conversion campaigns that generate 100s of leads per day. The very next day conversions dropped by about 40% today. One of the slowest days in over a year.

    Is this coincidence or do you think this is the cause of turning off search partners and forcing the algorithm to relearn?

    I’m very close to turning it back on, unfortunately

    If you’re getting 100s of conversions per day you can afford to split test this

    If you use the “network=“ tracking parameter at the campaign level, and you track the landing page/lead URLs of your leads, you’ll be able to see where those conversions came from.

    Network=s – search partners

    Network=g – Google search.

    Are we talking leads or sales? If leads, make sure you are monitoring quality.

    Yes, it’s normal. Google has to now re-calculate how to spend your budget, ads get shuffled etc. EVERY change has consequences and typically the short term consequences are negative. This is doubly true for small budgets (i.e. spending less than 4 figures per day)

    It’s not “normal” meaning in my opinion search partners shouldn’t be that much of your volume, but I have a feeling your lead quality is about to improve

    Managed an account since 2019, search partners has always been ~5-10% of our volume.

    A few months back our sales reps started complaining that all of the leads were Spanish speaking and confused when we called them.

    I looked through the account and suddenly 50+% of volume was search partners.

    I think Google added some odd partners recently, removed search partners and boom it’s back to normal.

    You can check the performance of Search Partners in the ‘Campaign’ overview under ‘Segment’. If historical performance is bad, it might be best to turn it off.

    You can check the performance of Search Partners and decide if it was a good choice.

    Hope that helps!

    What type of campaign is this? Also curious to see if lead quality is better.

    Its normal and majority of the conversion which might dropped was also conversions which came from only partners. Do segment click type by network in filter

    Search partners has been driving a ton of spam leads lately. Losing conversion volume is really normal, but you should check to see if lead quality improves as a result.

    It’s better to get 40% fewer leads with a much higher quality of lead than to get all of the leads and waste a lot of time on spam.

    Any time Google adds a new search partner, there’s a risk of them driving a lot of spam leads to make money on the deal. I’ve just turned them off on any lead gen accounts to avoid this. (ecom shows revenue from sales so you can tell if it’s worth it or not to leave search partners on).

    Before your turned off search partners: were any of the conversions from humans? I mean like actual, living human beings?
