    Traffic Sources on new website

Posted by Final_Ad_2 on February 19, 2023 at 9:18 am

At the start of February, I began campaigns on both Facebook and Google ads. The traffic was minimal, maybe 20 clicks per day from each, and another 20 from “direct.” So about 60 clicks per day from February 1 through 13. With 0 total conversions (monthly **paid** subscribers).

Then, without changing anything, total clicks spiked to over 400 on Feb 14. The bulk of which was from “direct.” It’s been around that ever since. I now have 25 paid subs, 19 of which are from “direct” traffic.

**My question**: what is “direct” and am I safe to stop (or limit) my paid ads since that is the bulk of my costs and is resulting in hardly any conversions? Im hesitant though, since I have no idea what the source of “direct” is. I have a hard time believing 250 unique users per day are hard typing in my URL into their browser. But it’s 54% of my all time traffic, and 76% of my all time conversions.

A lot of people who see an ad will go directly to your website, without clicking on the ad. So there is a big chance that if you stop the paid ads your direct traffic will also go down.

But if you want to be sure if this is the case then you can try to stop paid ads. Start with just Google OR Facebook.

if your website is HTTPS make sure your links in your ads are also HTTPS – if they are HTTP that will cause the source/medium data to be stripped which will cause things to look like they are direct
