Tracking setup – JavaScript or Python

Posted by nocciolatranky on October 19, 2023 at 9:22 pm

Hi everyone, I’ve been in PPC for a few years now, and it’s time for me to learn about tracking. I know, I know, it’s something I should already know, but I’ve always had a support team. Now I’ve decided to learn this part of the job too.
So the question is: What is the best way to learn how to set up GA4, Google Ads tracking, FB Ads tracking, cross-domain tracking, and set up all events, etc.? What are the skills I need and in what order should I learn them? What programming language should I learn, if any?
    Thanks!

You don’t need to learn a programming language. Tracking is mostly copy pasting code snippets into your pages and setting up automation rules in GAds, Google Tag Manager, and testing with Google Tag Assistant.

Having a basic understanding of JavaScript can be useful, but if you really want to get a good understanding of tracking, get comfortable with using Google Tag Manager (and Google Tags). Since almost all tracking is done through Google Tag Manager (with certain exceptions).
