    Hey all.

    I’m stuck.

I have a job coming up that requires social media content, mostly relatively intermediate level graphics.

I used to be a graphic designer but 17 years without practice does a lot to someone, so I’m asking for any tips and how you typically utilize graphical content.

I’ve tried canva, and the only way I can even get close to a good piece of work is with their templates, which are great, but is it cheating to not learn it from scratch?

The other option is Adobe, and I’ve watched multiple tutorials on everything. I guess the main question I have here is:

When creating content, what process do you go through and what programs do you use? I know, this is a really dumb question to ask but it’d help for some honesty. The graphic design subreddit wasn’t as nice.

If what you have to crank out is mostly routine data/statistic sharing, my husband says, edit a Canva template series to reflect agency brand and the process for such matters as easy as possible. Save your true graphic skills for items that need more of a visual story told. There is no guilt in practicality. (My husband did marketing for various industries, and often as a one person department.)

I think times have changed much, and there is no problem using templates anymore. Canva also allows you to re-redign their templates and make them totally your own. Don’t worry, use them, and gradually get into the groove to customize them and then by scratch. The trouble will be that the templates are so good and customizable, that no-one values your time and skill of your own handiwork, so don’t bother too much with that. Good luck!
