  • Tips for gaining traction as a new account on Instagram?

Hello everyone, I am a Graphic Designer who's trying to break into the industry by gaining traction on social media, platforms, such as Instagram and Twitter.

However, one problem I ran into is the painful algorithm.

Before they removed the recents tab for instagram hashtags, it used to be fairly easy to grow your account. For example, I had an account dedicated to publishing posters I made in high school which gained about 1k of followers in a few months without consistent posting.
Now however, I literally have to beg my friends for likes and it is still not enough to get me discovered. The only option I have left is reels, which i am very reluctant about making.

Now for Twitter – I am a aware that getting popular on there isn't easy either and I most likely need connections too, but my post is mainly about getting discovered on instagram.
So, does anyone know hacks for getting traction on Insta in 2024? Anything would help.

Some stuff I already read about:
    • publishing reels
    • trying to get notice by professionals in the industry (doesn't really work for graphic design)
    • targeting specific tags
    • buying followers (I am NOT going to do that)

Thanks for taking time to read this!

I would use SEO while writing a caption for Instagram posts. If you don’t know what to write about, use the website called „answer the public”. You enter a term like „graphic design” and it shows you what kind of phrases people are searching for in relation to your term, for example „do I need a degree to work in graphic design”. With that info you can tweak it and do a post about it. You have like free five searches per day so you can just try it without investing in it.

Another thing I would consider is to engage in the comment section of other professionals in the field. You can show off your knowledge and expertise or just different takes about given topics & hopefully this will attract potential audience to your profile. Lastly, don’t give up. Social media is a tedious job when you want to achieve something, so don’t discourage yourself too quickly and review your content to see what works for you and what doesn’t. I would say that I have fingers crossed, but in my country we hold thumbs for luck so that’s what I am going to do ☺️

    Nudity.

Sorry but Instagram is like OnlyFans browser and menu these days. Before you say it is my activity that yields these recommendation, I must tell you that all my (male) friends have the same experience.

    Facebook is for boomers.
    Twitter is for right-wing enthusiasts.
    Instagram is for softpron.

TikTok … I don’t know. TikTok is crazy AF. Half the time I don’t know what I am looking at.

Keywords where relevant; i.e in your posts alt. Post in 16:9 posts instead of 1:1 (square posts).

If you’re considering monetizing, start by hosting your videos on your bio link like primeb. io. Share your tutorials so you can build your loyal audience with time.

Focus on creating unique, high-quality content and engage genuinely with your audience. Collaborate with other creatives and use Instagram’s features like Stories and IGTV to diversify your presence.

Authenticity over algorithm—your real followers will appreciate it!
