The Student Surpasses The Master, My Buddy Just Landed His First Client!!
I’ve been doing SEO for years now and often times I’m open to answering different questions that people have about the industry but I’ve never ever wanted my own student and the reason isn’t that I hate people but rather I run my own one-man agency and I have clients to manage myself. Now before you think this is a hate post about people wanting to learn SEO there is a light at the end of the tunnel and its name is Bobby.
Bobby and I have been friends for many years dating all the way back to middle school and he’s always been a nice guy and super smart but he ended up flunking out due to his awful time management. Recently Bobby has fired from his job about 2 months ago and he asked me for advice on what he should do so I told him to look for a job but maybe try starting something of his own in the meantime to get some cash rolling in. He looked for about a week for ideas before just approaching me to ask if I could teach him SEO like I said I hate the idea of having students but Bobby needed this so I taught him as much as I could in what I call the SEO crash course.
We went over internal SEO, external SEO, GMB work, and all the little tweaks and adjustments I made to help my clients with their SEO processes to bring out their websites. Now Bobby may have awful time management but if I could sit him down and get him to pay attention it was money and that’s exactly what happened we grinded for about 3 weeks of time with him practicing/helping with my own agency doing little tasks here and there to get a feel until it was time for the bird to fly the coop.
I will say I had much more faith in his sales experience than his technical SEO since he’s always been a good talked but only 2 weeks of sales and he got his first client. That’s much fast than I ever landed one haha I almost considered hiring him to do sales for me. But I’m super proud of him and wanted to give him a shoutout here even though the guy hasn’t touched this subreddit, and if Bobby can do it aka someone who once downloaded 100 old email viruses on my computer as a kid then you can do it too!
